Via Francigena

A different way of travelling along the "trails" of Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi

Via Francigena, Umbria tours

Driving through three regions of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio along the trails of Santo di Assisi. A unique way to visit the most important places in the life of St. Francis starting from the Sanctuary of La Verna (in Tuscany) and coming to Greccio (the town of first Nativity Scene).

The city of Spoleto is at the centre of this spiritual journey much appreciated by modern travellers who want to experience a unique path that travels through spiritual spots, medieval villages and green hills.

While travelling on this route, you will pass through several places to visit such as the Eremo di San Girolamo, the Eremo delle Grace and the Chiesa di San Paul Proto Eremita. From our hotel, you can easily reach places like the Bosco Sacro di Monteluco (Sacred Wood of Monteluco) overlooking both the Hermitage as well as the Convent of the same name and from here walk towards Poreta, the next stage of the journey after Spoleto.

Former Spoleto Norcia Railway Route

Travel through a 30 km long path immersed in the green landscape on foot or by bicycle

Former Spoleto Norcia Railway Route

A path of over 50 km that winds through the hills of Umbria and connects the city of Spoleto to Norcia. Once a rail route, it has now become a cycle and pedestrian route for all lovers of mountain biking and trekking.

The railway operations were stopped in 1926 due to serious damage during the Second World War and were restored from the end of 1945 until 1968 when the operations were permanently discontinued.

In 2014, after various operations for restoration of the damaged sections, the new railway route was inaugurated and transformed into a biking and walking path for a total of 34 km out of 51 km. The inauguration took place on 19 April 2014, in the presence of the President of Umbria Region and regional Mayors.


Spoleto Museum - S. Anatolia di Narco Station, from 0.6 km to 19 km:


S. Anatolia di Narco - Borgo Cerreto

Accessible only from S. Anatolia di Narco Station Piedipaterno Ponte sul Nera, from 19 km to 23.3 km


Borgo Cerreto - Serravalle

Passable only through Borgo Borgo Cerreto Ponte sul Nera and former toll-gate Volpetti, from 30 km to 36.8 km.


Serravalle Station - Norcia Station, from 44.7 km to 51.3 km:

Il Sentiero degli Ulivi (Path of Olives) Itinerary

Spoleto, Eggi, Bazzano and Poreta are some of the key milestones that you will find along the Path of Olives, a route designed and promoted by the city of Spoleto and by CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) of Spoleto founded with the intent to promote and enhance the hilly region that characterises much of Umbria and is dominated by olive farming.

The path unwinds along the hills around Spoleto with variable altitudes of 500-600 meters with uneven ups and downs offering hikers a thrilling journey enriched by beautiful views and splendid landscapes.

Along the route, you can visit places of special historical and artistic significance such as the Rocca Albornoziana, the Church of Bazzano and the Castle of Poreta.
